Marley & Me - John Grogan

Before I read the book, I saw Marley and Me the film and I really enjoyed it, I then got the book and read it and found it was really good as well. To be honest I don't really like dogs so I thought I wouldn't like it much but in the end I found it really interesting and quite emotional to read as well. Overall the book brings happy emotions to you but at times sad where you feel sympathy towards the characters. Its a book with with intense, but a narrow appeal. The author makes you feel connected with the characters which makes you enjoy the book even more. Also the storyline does make you laugh at times just by the things that the characters do, and I think thats what made me enjoy it even more. Its a book that also really is touching and just makes you think aww, I really enjoyed reading it! I recommend that you read it! :)

Storyline:

John and Jenny were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same. Marley quickly grew into a barreling, ninety-seven-pound streamroller of a Labrador retriever, a dog like no other. He crashed through screen doors, gouged through drywall, flung drool on guests, stole women's undergarments, and ate nearly everything he could get his mouth around, including couches and fine jewelry. Obedience school did no good—Marley was expelled. Neither did the tranquilizers the veterinarian prescribed for him with the admonishment, "Don't hesitate to use these." And yet Marley's heart was pure. Just as he joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love and loyalty were boundless, too. Marley shared the couple's joy at their first pregnancy, and their heartbreak over the miscarriage. He was there when babies finally arrived and when the screams of a seventeen-year-old stabbing victim pierced the night. Marley shut down a public beach and managed to land a role in a feature-length movie, always winning hearts as he made a mess of things. Through it all, he remained steadfast, a model of devotion, even when his family was at its wit's end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms. :)

My Sisters Keeper - Jodi Picoult

I found this book really emotional, as the story goes on you feel more and more sympathy for all the characters because of the situation they are in, you feel so much sympathy for not just Kate but Anna too and all the other characters because of all the problems that the family are having, the situation they are in makes you realise how lucky you really are! This book has many different emotions making you feel a real connection with the characters. The storyline flows really well and everything fits together, the way the plot is said is really well done because it doesn't have all the horrible details just enough for the audience to feel sorry for the characters :)

The storyline: In My Sister's Keeper, Anna Fitzgerald was conceived and born so that she could provide genetically compatible body fluids and parts for her older sister, Kate, who suffers from leukemia. Whilst Kate is in the hospital having the treatment she needs she meets a boy that she ends up falling in love with, they become really close and after a few days he doesn't contact her, Kate starts to get upset because she thinks that he is ignoring her but really he has died because of his illness, Kate eventually finds out and is devastated! When Kate is 16 and Anna is 13, Kate needs a kidney transplant and Anna balks at giving up one of hers. She hires a lawyer to petition for medical emancipation from her parents, so that she alone can make decisions about her body. It's a decision that threatens to tear the family apart, from her mother who gave up a law practice to be a stay-at-home mom, an older brother who feels left out, and her father who wavers between choosing sides.

I recommend this book because its really interesting to read and even though the storyline is really sad you still want to keep on reading to see what happens!

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas- John Boyne :)

I found this book a devastating story but it's a fantastic book, it was so interesting and the way it was written was just amazing, it really interested me, to be honest most books I get quite bored of quite quickly but this book, well it really interested me and I couldn't stop reading it, the storyline is so tragic and was just so upsetting, it really is a book that I recommend, even though a devastating storyline with not the most happy ending it really is an amazing book! The boy in the striped pyjamas is an emotive book it reflects on Nazi Germany and how Hitler treats the jews, and it really makes you feel sympathy for the jews because of all the horrible things that the Germans do, the book makes you dislike Hitler because he was such a cruel person! The book is really worth reading, its full of mixed emotions mostly sad and sympathy and structured so well! :)

The storyline: Bruno returns home from school one day, he discovers that his belongings are being packed in crates. His father has received a promotion and the family must move from their home to a new house far far away, where there is no one to play with and nothing to do. He starts exploring around this new place, his mother tells him not to go past a certain bit but knowing Bruno he goes against her word and he goes exploring he then finds a tall fence running alongside stretches as far as the eye can see and cuts him off from the strange people he can see in the distance. But Bruno longs to be an explorer and decides that there must be more to this desolate new place than meets the eye. While exploring his new environment, he meets another boy whose life and circumstances are very different to his own, and their meeting results in a friendship that has devastating consequences.
